Four Classic Board and Card Games

While word search games might be an interesting pass time on riding the tube, they aren’t the most wholesome entertainment you can get in a group setting. So whether you’re planning a family game night, or you’ve decided to pick up some cans of lager in anticipation of taking on your mates in a night of board games, I’ve compiled a list of the most fun and entertaining board and card games.

Monopoly
A Barker Brother’s classic, Monopoly stands out as one of my favourite games of all time. The game can be extremely rewarding on day, and give you fits the next. A great game, that really leaves the winner feeling like he’s vanquished the rest of the players. And who doesn’t love the priceless look of frustration on your kid brother’s face as he lands on Pennsylvania avenue and has to fork out “rent” at hotel prices.

Risk
Quite a bit of joy can be had from a dodgy map of the world, some generic looking military game pieces, and a few set of dice. Half the fun is forging alliances with the hope of eventually stabbing the unfortunate soul who trusted you in the back.

Scrabble
With the popularity of games such as Wordfeud and Words with friends on mobile devices, sometimes it’s nice to unpack this classic. And nothing beats the endless debates about the validity of word. Let me tell you, Jason, “qat”, is a word!

Uno
A game that has little depth, and is simple enough a child can exceed at it. Of course there’s some level of strategy involved, but if there was a game you could train a monkey to play, this would probably be it. That doesn’t mean it isn’t loads of fun.
