Cookers, like many other appliances today, are beginning to evolve rapidly away from the forms we grew up with. If you’re looking to buy a new cooker, you’ll have to ask yourself a few questions, mainly, how much you want to spend and also the type of fuel you want to cook with.
How much you should spend is up to your needs and of course budget. You can choose to go with a freestanding cooker which is made up of a single oven and four burners or a range cooker. The freestanding cooker comes in sizes between 50 and 60cm and usually fits snugly into spaces in your kitchen. A range cooker starts at 70cm and goes on from there. Typically a range cooker will have 6 burners and two ovens and is for those that have a lot of cooking on their plate. Range cookers begin at £1000 while you can easily find a small, basic cooker for under £200.
As for fuel, I’m assuming you’re looking at the difference between radiant heating options like gas and electric. Personally, I’m a bit leery about induction hobs. People say that induction heating is safer for the children and is more efficient with energy but I think there aren’t enough studies out on the possible radiation effects.
If you’re looking at gas cookers for sale, gas cookers and gas ovens are traditional and definitely more cost effective energy-wise. Gas ovens cook better than electric ovens in some ways but gas has a tendency to not distribute heat as evenly as electric. Electric is also easier to control and more energy efficient than gas cooking. Again, it’s all up to your specific needs.
