Many national parks have local channels that you can log onto for assistance from a ranger, so having a walkie talkie is always a plus, especially if you plan on doing a lot of off trail adventures. These are great safety tools and are convenient for meeting and planning with large groups.
A camcorder is always fun and useful for capturing the excitement of any camping trip. With so much beautiful scenery around and so much happening, you cannot afford to let the once in a lifetime sites and the special experiences go undocumented. Ever since I got my first camcorder, I have taken it with me on every camping trip.
