Call of Duty Series Review

You know how some shows do a montage of the best moments of the show or do a recap of the last season? Well if you’re new to the Call of Duty franchise and are a bit overwhelmed or simply want to relive your past Call of Duty glory, here’s a quick review of the (now) 7 instalments of the main series.

Call of Duty

The one that spawned them all and originally on the PC, this first-person and third-person shooter was somewhat revolutionary in that the main character would have computer controlled allies while fighting. This helped players immerse themselves in their WWII romanticism by making them feel like they are part of a squad.

Call of Duty 2

The second instalment was put out by Activision and allows the player to control 4 different soldiers from different positions and offering 4 different perspectives.

Call of Duty 3

The third in the series and the third that takes place in the World War II era, this Treyarch  game was released for the Wii, the PS3, Xbox 360, Xbox and PS2 consoles. It takes place after the Normandy Breakout in 1944. Just like the last release you get to participate in several different campaigns.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

This game is out on the PS3’s Platinum Range list which has some of the best and cheapest PS3 Games that have been put out. The game leaves behind the WWII fantasy and, as the name suggests, puts the player into modern warfare which includes all the delightful new technology our modern society has developed to blow things up.

Call of Duty: World at War

Also new to the Playstation Platinum Range, this game returns the series back to WWII times and had the fabulous zombie Nazi mini game. World at War featured a much more mature theme than the past titles which probably reflected the demographic that was glomming onto the series.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

The controversial direct sequel to Call of Duty 4, this sixth instalment sold around 4 million units in the US and UK within a day. One only wonders how crazy fans will get about the upcoming 2011 release of Modern Warfare 3

Call of Duty: Black Ops

Finally we come to the latest instalment which is developed by Treyarch. This is the only game in the series so far that has placed the player in the Cold War era. Stealth modes and weapons make this the best instalment yet!

About Jeffrey H.

Hi my name is Jeff Hughes. I grew up watching British TV (probably a little too young to have been watching Black Adder) and particularly enjoy watching Hugh Laurie on the screen. I studied British and American Literature at University but I wish I had been reading comic books the whole time. I enjoy pubs because I believe you can’t drink on an empty stomach. I also like cats.
