Buying a Gift for a New Born

Buying gifts for a new baby can be tough, especially when you don’t know what the sex of the baby is. The parents to be may choose to find out the sex at birth which can be tricky for you when deciding on what is best to buy them as a gift. Here are a few tips on how to buy the best gifts for new babies…

Wait until after the birth. For the more organized amongst us this may sound like a nightmare, but by waiting until the birth you will be able to make a much more informed decision when choosing the perfect gift. When you know what the sex and the name of the baby is, you can start to have a look for personalised baby gifts, which can be unique and individual, and no one else is likely to have bought the same present.  Think bibs, blankets, photo frames and other items which can be individualized and buy them something rare that not many people are likely to have. At the moment you can get 10% off all orders from Scamp Baby Gifts, which do a wonderful range of handmade baby gifts.

Think practical. Even though the thought of buying nappies, bibs, cotton buds and other essentials may seem less exciting than buying new toys or cute clothing, the new parents will probably be delighted to get a stock of supplies for the first few difficult months. Baby products can be extremely expensive so you may be lifting the burden of expense for the new mum and dad. Ask the parents to be what they’ve already got and what they haven’t and buy them something they need.

Buy unisex products. We’ve all been there; what colour baby products do we buy if we don’t know the sex? Usually we go for the baby yellows, greens and creams.  Think outside the box a little and think about what all babies love, regardless of colour. Think along the lines of toys or products which will aid their development in the early stages of their life. Anything bright and colourful will get a babies attention, like rattles and stuffed toys. A quick trip to your nearest Early Learning Centre could be useful, or a browse around Babies R Us could be beneficial. Things like bath toys, cot mobiles and baby walkers can be fantastic gifts and many brands use neutral colours too.

Get creative. Make the baby something. If you knit, sew or are even handy at woodwork, make something for the baby and personalize it. This is a surefire way to make sure that the gift you give is completely original and will more likely to be kept as a keepsake as a lot of effort and thought will be evident.

If you’re buying any baby and nursery products compare models and prices before you buy to get the best deal.
