Back to Basics

The ruthless, fast-paced world of technology may consider these contraptions ‘has-beens’, but I’m convinced there is still a home for them somewhere, with someone.

Nowadays, most people buy their clothes at H&M, Gap, and Top Shop and then all walk around wearing the same jeans, jumpers, and shoes. But reality programmes like Project Runway are proof that there are people out there who mysteriously know how to use sewing machines and make their own clothes. If you can manage to master the gasping art of sewing, making your own clothes is much cheaper, much more unique, and pretty darn impressive. You definitely won’t be mistaken as anyone else’s clone. You can even make money off of this rare skill, even if your family and friends are your only customers. Sewing machines are definitely wise investments in this temperamental economy. When in doubt, go back to basics.

I’m pretty certain that no one uses portable CD players anymore, but that does not mean that they are obsolete. They prefer to be called ‘quaint’. On the tube, if you listen to your tunes on a portable CD player, it will lend you an air of eccentricity and mystery. Beautiful strangers will be drawn to you out of curiosity. Never mind that they’re heavier and bulkier than MP3 players and can only hold one album at a time. They’re retro, okay?

Deep fat fryers have also been experiencing a little dip in popularity. Seeing how ‘organic’ has become a god term, it follows that all of the health nuts have ostracised deep fat fryers. Even the name makes you want to run for the nearest treadmill or yoga class. But the fact remains that anything deep-fried tastes significantly better than anything organic, and for that reason alone, it deserves a spot in the kitchen. Never mind the fact that they are nutritional saboteurs; just go to the gym regularly.

About Tari

I can’t stand crowds, or queues, so most of my shopping is done by flitting around the internet! A bit more dangerous perhaps (I own way too many shoes and beauty products), but so much more efficient.
