5 Easy and Cheap Ways to Stay Warm This Winter

Human beings are astoundingly adaptive and tenacious creatures who can survive, and have even flourished in the harshest conditions. If you live in the UK you know how cold it can get in the winter and how expensive it can be to heat your place. Here are a few easy and cheap things you can do to stay warm indoors this winter.

1.       Layer

Try to dress in layers to keep your body heat from escaping. Your first layer should be a thin piece of clothing followed by a second layer for insulation such as a sweater or fleece. Top that off with a warm outer layer like a coat or even a thin woolen blanket and you will be a nice bundle of contentment this winter.

2.       Pets

Not only will getting a pet like a dog or kitty delight the children, having one of these furry balls of love curled up next to you will give you your own personal heater. Nothing feels better than having a warm cat purring on your feet or belly while reading a good book, oblivious to the temperamental climate outside.

3.       Small Radiators

Small radiators are a great back up and work well as a more efficient spot heater if you have a large place. Find yourself a good low noise, oil-free radiant or convection heater like the Dimplex CDE2TI, which has a 24 hour timer you can use in accordance to your needs.

4.       Eat Warm Foods

Food which contains cayenne pepper, ginger or cinnamon will help warm you up. You can also take a look at some good electric kettles to make yourself a warm cup of tea or cocoa on those dreary winter evenings.

5.       Keep Moving

Get some exercise regularly when it is coldest to get your blood pumping and to acclimate yourself to the weather.

About Jeffrey H.

Hi my name is Jeff Hughes. I grew up watching British TV (probably a little too young to have been watching Black Adder) and particularly enjoy watching Hugh Laurie on the screen. I studied British and American Literature at University but I wish I had been reading comic books the whole time. I enjoy pubs because I believe you can’t drink on an empty stomach. I also like cats.
