Nintendo continues to milk our need to relive our gamer childhoods by promising releases of our favourite titles or favourite characters on the new Wii graphic engine.
Of course Mario has made the transition through the numerous Super Mario Bros Wii games, but they’ve also put out new games featuring iconic heroes from our past such as Metroid: Other M, Transformers: War for Cybertron—a Transformers game that has nothing to do with Michael Bay’s horrible trilogy, and exclusive Sonic the Hedgehog games just to name a few. If you love reliving your past, here are four upcoming Wii releases sure to get your nostalgia blooming.
Set for release on 3rd December, I’ve been waiting for this game to come to the big boy consoles for 16 years. Remember when we got tricked by DK jungle beat? Blech! This 2.5D side-scroller brings along many of traditional elements from the first Donkey Kong Country. Someone Steals DK’s bananas, so you need to go and collect those bananas again, swing on vines, ride on mine carts, spell Kong’s name with golden letters, etc. It’s also as ridiculously hard as you remember the first one being. Yes it will be on like Donkey Kong indeed (is that trademarked?).
Epic Mickey
This has already come out for Europe but I’m going to put this up on here because North America’s version hasn’t been released. A new dark, fantastic adventure for one of the most iconic cartoon characters ever—this game is nostalgia at its finest as it revolves around the early Disney cartoons of the 1930s and 1940s.
Super Mario All-Stars 25th Anniversary Edition
Not a remake but still pretty awesome, Super Mario All Stars Wii has the early four Mario games including the lost levels which is basically a harder version of the early Mario game. Strap on your Hammer Bros shell and celebrate Mario’s 25th anniversary with the All Stars Wii version.
Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
Sadly pushed to 2011, if you’ve played the handheld Zeldas, Skyward Sword starts right after Phantom Hourglass. It will be using the Wii MotionPlus (swordfighting!) and will be including a mechanical flying beetle, a whip, as well as the traditional bombs and bow & arrows.
