So two French guys scored the sequel to an 80’s cult classic (Daft Punk – OST: Tron Legacy), and a guy in an oversized mouse head dropped one of the most anticipated dance albums (deadmau5 – 4×4=12) in recent memory. I think it’s safe to say Dance music has returned to relevance these days. So with all the headlines going to bigger, more established artists, I’ve decided to share some of my favourite electronic music artists with you.
The Twelves
This Brazilian production/DJ duo caught my ear after I heard their remix of the Black Kids “Boyfriend” on the FIFA 2009 sound track. They gained prominence remixing artists like Daft Punk, La Roux, and Metric. Their shows aren’t a traditional DJ set, as these two guys rock out on synths, essentially live remixing a whole bunch of tracks you never thought you’d hear in a club.
Classixx
LA based production/DJ duo. They put together some killer remixes, and have recently been working on some new tunes for an album that is slated for release later this year. While a lot of the electronic music that was coming out over the last few years featured some pretty heavy stuff, Classixx brought a unique, soft but danceable sound of disco mashed up with electro and a lot of catchy melodies. Watch out for these guys, they’re good.
Cut Copy
If you’re and avid user of Pandora and you want to find some great, mellow, electronic music, type Cut Copy into the station bar. These Aussie’s don’t have anything resembling a bad track, yet don’t garner the type of mainstream attention other artists do. Quite a shame really.
