Everyone needs to eat, but the dilemma we’re faced with in a busy work week is how to squeeze in a home cooked meal every few days. Dining out is delicious, easy and good for socializing but can be a drain on your bank account and can be unhealthy if you’re loading up on fast food.
Here are three easy cooking methods and accompanying recipes to make it more convenient to eat at home a little more.
Microwaves
Unquestionably, the microwave is the cooking appliance of choice for the lazy or overburdened. The microwave lords over leftovers and frozen dinners, but you can also do easy cooking as well. If you’re looking for new microwaves for sale, make sure you get one with a rotating plate. Here’s a quick recipe for 5 minute fudge:
- 3 cups chocolate chips
- 1 can condensed milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ¼ cup butter
-Mix milk, chocolate and butter in microwave safe bowl then microwave in 4 bursts for a total 3-4 minutes.
-Once melted, stir in vanilla and pecans then smooth out onto a pan.
-Refrigerate for 2 hours and cut into squares. Enjoy.
Food Steamers
Using steamers for cooking is probably the healthiest way to cook your food. I normally use mine for rice and vegetables but if you get those double or triple tiered steamers you can efficiently cook full meals. A dinner of herbed salmon and broccoli is a very easy meal to do with a two tiered food steamer. Put some thyme at the steamer base with water and boil. Butter or oil salmon lightly and steam for 10 minutes. Throw in some broccoli on the top tier while you’re doing this and you’ll have healthy food in no time.
Casseroles
Once you get accustomed to it, baking is a very simple way to make a delicious dinner. It’s easy with a little prep time and a kitchen timer. Casseroles yield simple and hearty meals and here is a nice breakfast casserole you can make in 30-40 minutes.
Breakfast bacon and eggs casserole
- 6 eggs
- 1 ½ cups milk
- 3 croissants shredded
- 10 slices of cooked bacon crumbled
- 2 tomatoes diced
- 1 ½ cups of shredded cheese (your choice)
-Preheat oven to 350 degrees + butter casserole. I would recommend Le Creuset brand casserole, but their pricey so make sure you get one during a Le Creuset sale.
-Whisk eggs and milk (set aside).
-Arrange croissant pieces as your base in the buttered casserole.
-Spread out bacon crumbles and diced tomatoes. Sprinkle shredded cheese and eggs. Season and bake for 30-40 minutes until slightly brow
