The petition to ditch unfair Mobile Termination Rates has exploded past the 100,000 signatures mark.

In just the few months since moneysupermarket.com, BT, 3, and many other partners launched the Terminate the Rate campaign, more than 100,000 UK individuals have added their voices.

They want an end to the unreasonable and excessive costs people in this country pay for the privilege of phoning friends, family and colleagues on their mobile phones.

Did you know that you're overpaying each time you call a mobile from a landline or rival network? That's because a Mobile Termination Rate is charged to every minute of the entire conversation.

The real cost of the charge is around 1p a minute but callers are being stung with charges closer to 5p. This adds up to billions of pounds every year - cash that goes straight into the coffers of the providers.

Not only are the Great British public signing up in droves, nearly 200 MPs have added their names to an Early Day Motion asking for these charges to be reduced.

Although 100,000 is an impressive number, we still need more signatures before the petition is presented to the watchdog Ofcom in October. You can read more about the campaign and sign the petition at the Terminate the Rate website.
