Broadband is now mobile

Broadband has gone mobile with a unique laptop modem. It can be yours for Christmas - and put you online in five minutes.

When 3 Mobile launched its mobile broadband offer a few weeks ago, it ran out of stock almost immediately. But now it's available again and could be yours in time for Christmas.

If you don't know how mobile broadband works, let me explain.

Basically, 3 Mobile provides you with a USB modem you can plug into a laptop and within five minutes you'll be online. You can swap your modem between different computers and you can pick up broadband wherever you want it.

So instead of searching for Wi-Fi hotspots you can access the web in the park, on the train, or wherever you choose. It's a plan that has proved particularly popular with students as it is a huge money saver - they get to go online without having to pay line rental or any additional charges because there are no wires and no hidden fees.

There are four mobile broadband plans available from 3 Mobile:

• Broadband Casual - Basically this is a pay-as-you-go package with charges of £1 per megabyte.
  
• Broadband Lite - For £10 a month you receive a 1Gb data allowance. That's enough to send 650 plain text emails, download 30 two minute videos, 60 music tracks and surf the web for 30 hours. Needless to say that's more than enough for most!
  
• Broadband Plus - With this deal you receive a 3Gb data allowance for £15 a month.
  
• Broadband Max - For heavy internet users you can pick up a 7Gb data allowance for £25 a month.

The Lite, Plus and Max deals all charge 10p/Mb if you go over your download limit in an individual month.

Now you might be wondering about download speeds. Admittedly they're not as fast as you can pick up from a regular broadband deal, but if you live within range of 3's Turbo Network (just enter your postcode on the website to find out if you do) then you can enjoy speeds up to 2.8Mb.

Don't be surprised if 3 Mobile run out of stock for their USB modem again in the near future. That's why I'm urging you to grab this deal now - and if you do, 3 Mobile guarantees delivery by Christmas.
