Sony has a seasoned history when it comes down to its smartphone collection, and its latest batch of devices are some of the best yet. The Sony Xperia Z5, Z5 Compact and the all new Z5 Premium all bring something new to the mobile market, but how do they compare to some of the preceding Sony handsets?
The Xperia Z5 and its brethren all sport a similar design to that of their older siblings, with the same body shape and overall look proving almost identical. However, one big move that’s been made by Sony is that of a change of materials – getting rid of the fingerprint-happy glass panels for a more stylish metallic build.
Sony does keep a hold of the IP68 durability with all three, which ensures the phones is shock proof, dust proof and waterproof to certain limitations. This means that the Z5, Z5 Compact and Z5 Premium can all take a lengthy beating without falling apart a few minutes later.
As for the internal specs, all three show improvements over their predecessors, most notably with the Z5 Premium launching the first 4K display on the mainstream smartphone market. The other Z5 phones aren’t far behind with HD displays of their own, whilst Snapdragon 810 chipsets and octa-core processors all get included for some extra oomph as well.
Photography is handled duly by all three Sony smartphones, with the Z5, Z5 Premium and Z5 Compact all staking claim to 23 megapixel cameras and 5.1 megapixel selfie lenses. These are all a step up from the previous Sony smartphone collection, packing some extra power for even better Instagram uploads.
Android Lollipop comes pre-loaded on all of the new phones as well, whilst Marshmallow will undoubtedly head onto each device in the near future. Sony’s own Xperia user interface is also included, whilst fingerprint scanning technology also features for the first time on all three Sony smartphones.
You’ll certainly need to spend some extra cash to pick up one of these three phones over their predecessors, but thanks to a new design, extra specs and several feature upgrades, it’ll definitely feel like money well spent.
