The iPhone 6s and 6s Plus are the latest smartphones to come out of the Apple production line, bringing a new duo of handsets onto the market for you to splash the cash upon. But how does the iPhone 6s compare to last year’s iPhone 6?
Two of the best iPhones ever made, the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus don’t sport that different of a design to their predecessors, although there are some notable inclusions. The rose gold iPhone 6s is a colour we haven’t seen on previous phones, and the new strengthened iPhone aluminium is also much less likely to bend when placed under duress.
Behind the design, the iPhone 6s A9 chipset is a big step up from the A8 Processor on the iPhone 6. It offers around twice the speed of its predecessor, and should help improve the Apple battery life as well.
A new 12 megapixel iSight camera on the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus is also much improved compared to the iPhone 6 and its 8 megapixel effort. This is boosted by the addition of a 5 megapixel FaceTime lens, which is almost five times as powerful as the one included on the iPhone 6. 4K video on the iPhone 6s is also a new touch, which is much sharper than the iPhone 6 video quality.
A brand new feature which is exclusive to the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus is 3D Touch, which allows the screen to recognise how hard you’re pressing it to allow for quick shortcut access, amongst other things. This is built directly into the iPhone 6s display, so you won’t be able to take advantage of this on older iPhones.
Also, Touch ID on the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus is now two times faster than the fingerprint scanner on the iPhone 6, making Apple Pay and unlocking your phone quicker and easier.
iOS 9 comes built in on the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, but iOS 9 on the iPhone 6 can also be installed to keep you on a level playing field from September 16th. Apple is also ensuring that there’s no boosted price for the iPhone 6s, putting both new handsets up for sale at the same level as the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus were upon their launch.
