The Sony Ericsson Yari is a mid-range handset with a slide-out control panel. A 2.4-inch TFT QVGA (240 x 320 pixel resolution) display supports the 5 megapixel camera with autofocus, LED flash, geo-tagging and face/smile detection. It also records QVGA video.
The Yari is a quad-band phone for potential global roaming, with the fastest internet (3.5G) HSDPA where available, backed up by GPRS/EDGE elsewhere. Short-range wireless Bluetooth also has A2DP support for a wireless headset. There is a GPS receiver and A-GPS support for a subscription-based sat-nav service.
At 100 x 48 x 15.7 mm and weighing 115g, it is squarely in the middle of the pack, with a few extras, such as motion-based gaming and shake controls. One included game is tennis: set the Yari on a table top, for example, and stand in front, imagining you have a tennis racket in your hand. The front facing camera picks up your motions as you play the game.
The Yari also has a v3.0 Walkman player, with support for all the major digital music formats, plus Track ID. There is support for Blogger,and a native YouTube application and is well provisioned in utilities, such as alerts, clocks and speakerphone. Battery life is rated at 4.5 hours’ talk time or 450 hours on standby from a full charge.
