The Samsung i200 was one of the first phones to be labelled “smart” but, such is the pace of development, it is now more an entry-level business phone, but with many advantages. A monoblock phone weighing just over 100g, it is comfortable in the palm with a vibrant 2.3-inch screen and responsive five-way D-pad with keypad beneath.
No Wi-fi or GPS, but it does offer HSDPA for fast Web browsing and Windows Mobile 6.1 software with which you can customise your home screen and icons. There is “threaded” SMS support, so you can follow your texts in a conversation format. You can copy and paste between emails, texts and input areas of Internet Explorer and it has the latest Office mobile, which includes OneNote and the ability to edit existing Office documents.
This tri-band GSM device also offers a video player (not full screen, though), a front-facing camera for video calling, Exchange support, podcast software, a PDF viewer and an RSS reader.
The camera is a meagre 2 megapixel affair – reflecting its mid-range status – but does have smile shot technology, face detection and digital zoom.
Battery life is rated at four hours’ talk time and 360 hours on standby from a full charge.
