Compare Rome Deals

The Orange "Rome" is a sleek-looking solid bar phone with a modest feature set reflecting its attractive price-tag. It is a tri-band phone, so supports international qfacility – not much by the standards of today’s smartphones, where 8 megapixels is the norm – but still enough to produce reasonable snapshots and modest video clips.

The Rome’s dimensions (108 x 46 x 13 mm) ensure a neat fit in the palm – and light at only 80g. It offers an MP3 player and FM radio, for which there are proprietary plugged in headphones or you can listen on a wireless headset via Bluetooth (the standard for short-range wireless data transfer). As its application set is extremely modest, there is no need for much internal storage, so 10 Mbytes’ suffices – although there is a microSD card slot for additional memory.

Among its personal organiser-type features, the Rome has a vibration alert, a built-in speakerphone, voice recorder, “flight” mode (which turns off certain features and retains others for the duration of a flight) and the capacity to download games (though available memory could be a challenge).

Battery life is rated at up to 240 minutes’ talk time and 240 hours on standby from a full charge.
