The Xda Guide from O2 is a sat-nav oriented smartphone with an A-GPS transmitter and, specifically, CoPilot Live 7 software. It is manufactured by Taiwan’s HTC, which has a similar device in the HTC Touch Cruise (though without CoPilot 7).

There is 3.5G/HSDPA for fast Web access, with Wi-fi for wireless hotspot and WLAN working, plus Bluetooth for short-range wireless data transfer between compatible devices and A2DP for a stereo wireless headset. The internet is accessed via the Opera Web browser and HTC’s TouchFlo interface on top of the Windows Mobile 6.1 operating system. But it is sat-nav that rules with the Guide: thumb-friendly menus and you can toggle between 2D and 3D views, plus the usual voice directions to your destination, including pointing out the speed cameras.

The display is a 2.8-inch touchscreen with 320 x 240 pixel resolution; there is a 3.2 megapixel camera with 2 x digital zoom, panorama setting and a 10-second timer - and it comes with a 1GB microSD card. There is quick-fit, stick on car-charger via the cigarette lighter.

The quad-band Guide (for potential global roaming) has little on-board memory for its application-rich insides, but has a microSD card slot for up to 32 GB of additional storage. Battery life is rated at six hours’ talk time or up to 400 hours on standby from a full charge.
