The Nokia N97 Mini is the little sister of the flagship of the high successful N-Series - about 10% smaller than the N97 but with essentially the same specification.

It features a slide-out QWERTY keyboard along with the large touchscreen. The touchscreen is resistive rather than capacitive like the iPhone, designed for finger use or the included ministylus (though no slot for it on the phone). With the keypad, it is a belt and braces for text-ers.

To make the phone’s more advanced features accessible, the N97 has a customisable home screen made up of six different slots that you can assign widgets to. Pre-installed widgets include calendar, Facebook update, music player and FM transmitter.

The N97 has 8 GB of in-built storage and a slot for an HC microSD card up to 16 GB, making it a pretty good MP3 player in its own right and – well done Nokia - with a standard 3.5mm headphone jack.

Connectivity options are comprehensive, with Wi-Fi and 3G HSDPA, quad-band world roaming, a speakerphone, speed dial, conference calling, voice-command support, a vibrate mode, and text and multimedia messaging (SMS, MMS, Instant Messaging and email).

It has a 5 megapixel camera with dual flash, GPS with Nokia Maps, plus support for podcasts and Internet radio and an FM tuner. To get online, you can use either the phone's integrated Wi-Fi or tri-band HSDPA support with Nokia’s HTML Web browser.

Battery life is rated at 95 hours’ GSM talk time (six hours with 3G) and around 18 days on standby from a full charge.
