Nokia’s N72 smartphone in dramatic black is an upgrade to the already excellent N71 and targets the business person with a sense of style. Only 10mm thin and 128g (light for a phone of this calibre) it offers a QWERTY keyboard above a glass-covered 2.36-inch 320 x 240 QVGA display. It comes with a 5 megapixel camera (maximum 2592 x 1944 pixels picture resolution) with autofocus and flash and video (15fps).

Heavy data users can relax with 3.5G/HSDPA for internet and messaging. It is compatible Microsoft Exchange email systems and Lotus Notes Traveller, so you can manage email accounts and their respective attachments with ease. Nokia Messaging is also included (with a lifetime licence) and supports access and easy set up for Instant Messaging accounts including Yahoo! and MSN Messenger.

It runs A-GPS and a compass with integrated Nokia Maps. Call quality is enhanced by active noise cancellation. Other interesting touches include a spacebar key-activated torch function and a most welcome 3.5mm standard headset jack on the top.

Battery life is impressive: 6.5 hours constant GPS navigation, 5 hours constant Web surfing, over 7 hours of video playback, 32 music playback via headphones, 110 hours of Wi-fi standby and, oh yes, around 12 hours’ talk time before needing a charge.
