The Nokia 6212 Classic is monoblock 3G phone with a 2-inch screen (240 x 320 pixels resolution) and the first to incorporate Near Field Communication (NFC) technology. This provides a short distance connection between two compatible devices so allowing payment and ID information to be exchanged between the two devices. NFC communicates up to ten centimetres between the devices: it is used as a swiping method of data transfer so doesn’t need the distance capable in Bluetooth or Wifi.

At 114.7 x 47.1 x 14.5 mm, the 6212 is compact and light (only 88 g). The 3G technology  (backed up by GPRS/EDGE where 3G is unavailable) delivers high speed Web connectivity and 3G video calling via the second camera (the main camera is a low-spec 2 megapixel device), while quad-band GSM supports international roaming. There is Bluetooth and USB support between compatible devices for short-range wireless/wired data transfer.

It contains the Opera Mini HTML browser and WAP 2.0 XHTML browser for Web surfing and services, plus SMS, MMS, instant messaging and email messaging options. For entertainment, a music player supports all the popular formats such as MP3 and there is an FM radio.

There is 22 Mbytes’ internal memory and a microSD card slot for up to 4GB.Battery life is rated at 3.4 hours’ talk time or 300 hours on standby from a full charge.
