Compare 5140i Deals

The Nokia 5140i is a monoblock handset designed for a tougher regimen than most phones could survive: the outdoor person, on-site worker, sports enthusiast. While not in the totally ruggedised class, the 5140i can withstand a modicum of slings and arrows: it can be knocked, dropped and splashed within reason, even to the extent of being able to replace the outer skin, with a bottom flap for protection against water ingress.

As a phone/text device it is mid-range, with support for SMS, MMS and instant messaging, a VGA camera/video recorder and “outdoor” utilities including a standby light – ostensibly to help locate the phone in the dark - flashlight, compass, thermometer and alarm clock.

Internet access is via GPRS/EDGE, so efficient rather than quick, while the display is  a modest 128 x 128 pixel resolution. It has a stereo FM radio but no music player. At 107 x 47 x 24 mm, it is satisfyingly chunk and weighs 101g.

Battery life depends on how long the flashlight is on, for example, but you can confidently expect two to five hours’ talk time or up to 300 hours on standby from a full charge.
