The Motorola ROKR E8 is a quad-band phone, with the Web serviced by GPRS/EDGE and all the features that, these day, go with that. However, it’s primarily a music-oriented and style-aware phone, from the black slab look (with no apparent buttons and few controls) to the welcome 3.5 mm standard jack for your own choice of headset.

It has a basic 2 megapixel camera, whose results are visible on  the E8’s 2-inch screen that is noticeably crisp and bright.  The E8 supports all popular music files, which can also be played via a stereo wireless headset via Bluetooth A2DP. The music player delivers excellent performance, plus stereo FM radio.

The keypad is pressure-sensitive - haptic technology  - which takes some people a little getting used to, but is often felt to be more responsive in the long run. Messaging options are SMS, EMS, MMS, email and instant messaging.

Internal memory is 2 Gbytes with a microSD card slot for up to 4GB additional storage capacity.  These two memory pools are automatically combined, so music stored in the phone's memory is combined with music stored on microSD within the main music library, itself accessible with a dedicated music key. Battery life is rated at up to five hours’ talk time or 500 hours on standby from a full charge.
