Some mobiles are just premium quality and Motorola’s Milestone – known as the Droid in its US incarnation – is one such. It can claim to be the best Android (2.0 operating system) phone to date, with a 3.7-inch, 480 x 854 pixels capacitive touchscreen with accelerometer It packs in a full QWERTY keyboard while remaining slim (only 13.7 mm) and is stuffed full of now standard smartphone features.
At 115 x 60 x 13.7 and weighing 165g, the Milestone is no shrinking violet of a device. The keyboard clicks into place when fully extended, with nicely spaced keys – although there is a peculiar raised lip at the bottom.
As you might expect, it is a quad-band phone for potential global roaming, with dual-band 3G for fast internet access with Wi-Fi for wireless hotspot connection and Bluetooth for short-range wireless data transfer. There is a 5 megapixel, autofocus camera with dual LED flash, 24 fps video recording facility and a music player supporting all the popular formats.
The inclusion of a 3.5 mm standard headset jack continues this feature’s welcome evolution into a standard. Battery life is rated at 6.5 hours’ talk time and 380 hours on standby from a full charge.
