The LG GW300 in blue on a black surround is a keyboard-centric tri-band phone with a 2.4-inch screen and, in particular, a QWERTY keyboard. It is a phone without any frills other than that.

Several applications and widgets are on board. Access to sites such as Facebook and Twitter is almost instantaneous: you can send messages or update your status almost immediately. This is not the full, graphics and photo-heavy version of Facebook, for example, but it is a way of letting everyone know what is going on in text form.

Web contact is via GPRS/EDGE rather than 3G and messaging options are SMS, MMS, email, instant messaging and social networking – all made easier by the physical keyboard. There is a 3.2 megapixel camera with video recording facilities, an MP3 player and the usual bunch of personal organiser functions: unlimited phonebook entries with multiple contacts storage, calendar, timers, vibration alert and hands-free operation.

It supports short-range wireless data transfer via Bluetooth and cabled via USB. Internal memory can be enhanced via a micro-SD card.
