The LG GB102 in dramatic black is a no-frills 2G phone for calls, texts and not a lot else. Ideal for a basic, first phone or cheap and cheerful spare, the GB102 goes back to the days of early mobiles, except with dimensions of 103 x 45 x 14 mm, it is a lot more pocket-friendly and light.

Announced in February 2009, it is unusual in being both modern and feature-basic - a 2G phone with a 1.5-inch CSTN, low resolution (128 x 128 pixels) display – but then why would a more expansive screen and function set be needed if the whole idea is cheap, reliable and unfussy like the GB102?

The extras include useful stuff like vibration alert and speakerphone – no camera, no USB, even, just a small organizer function.

Battery life is excellent, rated at six hours 30 minutes’ talk time and 400 hours on standby from a full charge.
