Compare iPAQ Data Messenger Deals

HP’s iPAQ Data Messenger targets business users with a slide-out-to-the-side QWERTY keyboard and 2.8-inch 320 x 340 pixel resolution touchscreen (with stylus) display. At 160g, it makes no concession to sartorial elegance, designed as it is for serious office type use.

Aesthetically challenged it may be in some eyes, but connectivity is up to broadband speeds via 3.5G/HSDPA - the integral Opera browser is optimised for these conditions - with Wi-fi for hotspot and WLAN working, backed up by GPRS/EDGE where 3G is unavailable and Bluetooth short-range wireless data transfer with compatible devices.

Running under Windows 6.1, there is the Mobile Office suite and A-GPS with Google Maps Mobile. It has a 3.1 megapixel camera with 5 x digital zoom – nothing special these days and even a little below par, but reflected in the aggressive pricing and the nature of the beast. This is for the business professional who needs to stay in touch, receive emails and IM while on the move, with Microsoft Office available for work-related attachments.

It is a quad-band device, so potentially will offer global roaming. For entertainment, there is a Windows Media Player default music and video player. It has 128 Mbytes’ RAM and a microSD card for additional storage. While devices from other manufacturers have outstripped HP’s Data Messenger in functionality, it is an efficient workhorse for the business user.
