Compare iPAQ 614c Deals

HP’s iPAQ 614c – the “Business Navigator” is functional in the extreme: black and grey plastic front, rubberised back, with no highlights or chrome trim. It means business. Chunky in the palm, it measures 60 x 117 x 18mm, weighing 145g, so not exactly a fashion item, but it has some nice surprises. For instance, embossed in gloss relief on top of the alphanumeric (non-QWERTY) pad keys is a “touch ring”: you sweep a thumb or finger around to navigate through lists and options.

The 614c is a 3.5G/HSDPA-enabled phone for fast internet, with Wi-fi for hotspot and WLAN connectivity, plus Bluetooth. It has an A-GPS receiver, which combines location information gleaned from the phone's cell location with data from the satellites themselves to speed up initial satellite lock. It comes with Google Maps rather than actual sat-nav software, but it does provide a position.

The 2.8-inch touchscreen sits above two special softkeys whose default setting is messaging and HP shortcuts. There is a 3 megapixel camera  with flash for some decent pictures and, as a quad-band phone, it has the potential for global roaming.

As a business device, you’d not be disappointed with the Mobile Office suite, internet explorer, voice commander (“what time is it?” etc) and Windows Messenger among a host of other applications and even a few games. Expect to have to charge up the 614c every couple of days.
