Compare beTouch E101 Deals

The Acer beTouch E101, previously known as the E1, has a very simple monoblock design. The budget model of Acer’s family that runs Windows Mobile Professional 6, the E101 offers GPRS/EDGE for Web and messaging/email connectivity, plus A-GPS (not the quickest to find a lock, though) and Bluetooth short-range wireless. There is a touch-sensitive wheel at the bottom of the display, acting as a virtual scroll wheel for quick zips through menus and as a clickable “go” button.

The 3.2-inch resistive touchscreen has a relatively low resolution (240 x 400 pixels) but manages to show clear, vibrant images. The camera is only 2 megapixels but adequate for snaps. The media player supports the more popular file formats, naturally including MP3, but also MP4 video.

Applications include the Pocket (Microsoft) Office suite with PDF viewer and messaging options are SMS, MMS, email and instant messaging.

It has 256 Mbytes’ RAM, 512 Mbytes’ ROM and a microSD card slot for additional storage. Battery life is rated at up to five hours of talk time - expect to charge up every three days or so with normal use.

The E101 is, above all, low cost, but does represent some serious compromises. Whether it has gone too far will depend on your needs.
