Blackberry undergoing OS Revolution

Talkin’ bout a revolution.

That’s what RIM are doing, at least. Seems that in a move similar to Nokia (who switched from Meego Linux and Symbian to Windows phones), RIM have decided that Blackberry 10 (the operating system that RIM’s new handsets will run on) will be based on a whole new programming language – meaning that they have quite literally scrapped everything that has gone for.

This choice of revolution over revolution is not uncommon – as previously mentioned, Nokia made the decision to do something similar, and Microsoft also decided to completely reboot their mobile operating systems in recent memory.

Why did they do this? Well, in truth it tends to be a move made by a struggling company; a tacit admmission that what they are currently doing simply isn’t working, and an attempt to try something different: Rewrite the rules and start again, if you like.

Of course, what is of concern is that RIM are already using Blackberry 10 on their Playbook tablets, which I had actually forgotten about until I did a bit of research to write this article. However, RIM are relaunching the Playbook with a 2.0 version of its operating system, that will hopefully see a little more success for the beleagured phone company.
