Apple just won’t let up on Samsung.
The fruity hardware giant has today announced that it is going to try and get Samsung’s new flagship phone (The Galaxy Nexus, Google’s current chosen one) banned in the United States.
On what grounds do they want the device banned? Because of alleged patent infringements, of course – same as in ever other chapter of the ongoing patent wars that the two companies have been embroiled in for longer than this blog has been running. Apparently a ban is “essential to prevent immediate and irreparable harm to Apple”, said the company in which stock costs $500 a share.
Of course, whether this is Apple having a go at Samsung or Google isn’t one hundred percent clear, although they have kicked up a stink in Samsung’s direction for quite some time now, and their rivalry with Google for the crown of Kings of the Smartphone has been well documented.
Apple haven’t had the best of luck with their cases: Whilst they have succeeded in getting preliminary bans placed on items in a few countries, most of these have been lifted by the time the case has had its day in court – or in one case, the judge simply told the two companies to sort their problems out outside of the courtroom.
Apple have made a number of spurious claims about Samsung’s business strategies (especially when many people believe that Apple are taking these cases to court not to actually get the items banned, but simply to be awkward, and it’ll be interesting to see how this one goes. As always, we’ll let you know.
