Saga Home Insurance
Saga home insurance is aimed at the over 50s, and aimed at giving you the peace of mind that your home will be fully protected.
The insurer specialises in offering cover to older people, and its range of insurance products also includes car, travel and health.
All products are offered with quality service, and generally speaking, you do not have to fill out any forms when setting up or adjusting your policy - or when making a claim.
But don't automatically assume a specialist insurer, such as Saga, will automatically offer the best deals without checking what else is available.
It is best to do your own research by shopping around, as you may find a better deal from a standard insurer.
Types of product
There are essentially two elements of home insurance: buildings insurance covers the actual home, as well as garages and garden sheds on the property, and contents insurance covers everything you have within those walls.
Saga Home Insurance offers both buildings and contents cover, and customers can choose from a range of cover levels: Standard Accidental Damage, Extended Accidental Damage, Cover Plus, and Saga Home Insurance TailorMade.
There are discounts of 25 per cent on offer for buying online and taking buildings and contents cover together.
Policy limits
Saga home insurance provides buildings cover up to £500,000 and contents cover up to £50,000 as standard.
Higher cover levels are available on request.
With its contents insurance, there is no need to specify single items worth less than £2,500, such as jewellery and antiques.
If a broken item cannot be repaired, Saga home insurance offers “new for old” replacement.
If your home is unoccupied for up to 60 days in a row, you get full protection.
There is also a 24-hour helpline.
Optional extras
If you take out a policy with Saga home insurance you can choose from one of a selection of optional extras.
You can mix and match these add-ons to suit your specific budget and requirements.
These include Legal Expenses Cover and Saga Home Response.
You can also add Personal Belongings In and Away from Home Cover to get worldwide protection.
Opt to include student cover and you can protect a student's possessions while they are attending school, college or university.
Other add-ons include garden cover and golf cover.
