Just ot add to the excellant advice above, remember that mortgage is always higher priority than unsecured debt. Make sure you make the mortgage payment in full, even if that means failing to make the minimum payment on some credit cards

You should check what benefits you are entitled to (entitledto.com). I believe there are scheme whereby you can get your mortgage interest paid by the government, but I don't know anything about it I'm afraid. I would recommend going back to the CAB if you have any questions regarding benefits

Hoopefully you've already done this, but make sure you cut up all your credit cards so you don't start using them again. This is especially important if you get a consolidation loan - a lot of people fall into the trap of getting a consolidation loan then spending on the cards again, ending up with both the loan and the cards to ...

Just to add a couple of points to add to the excellant posts above. 1) Is your ex paying enough child support? Try checking the CSA website for how much he should be paying. 2) Are you claiming all the benefits you are entitled to - try www.entitledto.co.uk. The CAB should be able to help with both of these points

As someone who had to claim for Icesave, I can tell you that the protection extends to interest earned up to the day before the institution fails. However, you do not receive any interest in the time between when the instution fails and when you receive the compensation

I definately think it is worthwhile approaching CAB / Shelter if you are worried about keeping a roof over your head. You may be able to get a crisis loan from the benefits agency - it is an interest free loan that is repaid from benefits

That's ok.
Just make sure you ask for the basic bank account at whichever bank you try - all banks should have a version (eg Co-op Cashminder, Lloyds Cash Account, Barclays Cash Card Account or HSBC Basic Bank Account)
