• Re: What is the point of a cash isa ???????

If you transfer your ISA to another provider you can more than match the 3 year 4.65% (taxable) bond; eg Principality 3 year ISA fixed at 4.2% (equivalent to 5.25% before tax) or M&S MONEY 3 YR ISA at 4% (equiv to 5%) - that way you still keep the tax free status.

  • Re: Rubbish Britannia/Phoenix endowment

I have just received my statement from Phoenix re a 20 year mortgage endowment (previously held with Scottish Provident) The predicted return over the 20 years is only 6.3%!!!! or 0.29% pa!! Fortunately I have already gone down the misselling route with my bank (who "supplied" the endowment) and been compensated (altho' not very ...

  • Re: Transferring an ISA

You can deffo transfer old ISAs to a new provider independently of this year's ISA. Just don't subscribe any new money and let the new provider handle the transfer. I moved 9 old ISAs earlier this year to new providers on behalf of myself and OH!!

  • Re: Selling my house online...great but...

In the current circumstances I would rent furnished and put your possessions into storage. I did this a few years ago to ensure that I didn't lose my purchaser - I know you say you sold in two weeks but if you back out it could be months( or even years) before you find a new buyer!

  • Re: Setting up a wireless internet connection

Sorry Twee - can't help you specifically with Netgear router - never had one - suggest you ask the question on a specialist forum. Just a thought you know that MACs can contain the number 0 but not the letter O ? Could it just be a misstype?

  • Re: Setting up a wireless internet connection

Use WPA without access control - Access control (MAC filtering) isn't a lot of use as a security measure and as I've said WEP is nowhere near as strong as WPA. You are using the MAC address of your wireless adaptor ??

  • Re: Government clampdown on credit card providers

Jalexa, agree wholeheartedly with you about continuous payment authorities; the only real problem I've had (fortunately) in 35 years of using a credit card was with a recurring payment for a monthly subscription - took nearly 9 months to sort out and the card supplier was extremely unhelpful- cancelling the card didn't stop the wrongful ...

  • Re: Setting up a wireless internet connection

    1. WPA is much more secure than WEP (WPA2 is best but older kit won't allow its use)-WEP can be cracked relatively easily with tools downloaded from the Net. Having said that any form of encryption will deter all but a determined piggybacker. I can see 2 totally unprotected networks in my immediate area out of 5, so .......... WPA can be ...
