This happened to me as well. Try transfering a pound to it and if it works then the account is open.
When it happened to me and i was declined it showed a role number and account details but after a week it was removed. When i called they told me it was reffered and then declined.

dont acknowlege the debt, there is a lot on this forum about debts over 6 years called statute barred. I searched for it and found a standard letter to send from a guy called connmankiller who seems to know a lot and is very helpfull.
