  • First time buyer - advice please

Hi all, I'm a first time buyer, basically a mortgage novice! I have decided with my girlfriend that we should step on the ladder and any advice would be appreciated. We have a good lump sum we can use as a deposit and with the help of our families we should be able to aim at a 70% mortgage. Given the current rates, I think it'd be a shot in the ...

  • Re: Kalos - noise and vibration on braking

Hi James, just to say that Kwik Fit themselves asked me to go to a dealer as they were clueless. Can you believe it? I got a brake inspection report from the dealer saying that the only problem with the brakes was the fact that non genuine parts had been found. At this point Kwik Fit had no other option than let me off their hook. Got the brakes ...

  • Re: Kalos - noise and vibration on braking

Thanks James. And in fact the garage itself is pushing me to go to the dealer as at this rate I'll drive them to bankruptcy before the end of the year! My point is that in the absence of any other reasons, their disks and pads are the only faulty parts. Can I force them to buy original parts or to give me my money back? By the way, I would ...

  • Kalos - noise and vibration on braking

Hi, I'll have my disks and pads changed for the third time in 5 months tomorrow. Luckily they are under warranty but the garage (Kwik Fit) can't find a reason for them getting warped so quickly (only 3 weeks last time). I hear a rattle when breaking softly while at higher speed I get a strong vibration on the stirring wheel. It's on both wheels ...

  • Re: Transfering an ISA after having paid in in this financial year

Sparx, the Barclays golden Isa does not accept transfers while the Natwest E-ISA requires you subscribe to their ISA before transferring your money. Therefore you can't subscribe to Barclays and transfer your old ISA to Natwest at the same time. I believe you wanted to do this to maximise the interest as Barclays is offering the most competitive ...

  • Re: How safe is Abbey

Hi ITmanic. I am not surprised you were given the wrong information. Not because of Abbey but simply because of the poor service sales advisors offer in general. For what is worth, my advice is to do all your research online first. I usually download the T&Cs and interest tables for future reference. I will keep having an high interest account ...

  • Re: How safe is Abbey

Hi, I opened an account with Abbey AND another one with A&L exactly 12 months ago (8 and 8.5% fixed rate). I always kept the balance up to the max allowed for the higher interest rate (2.5K each). Each month I transferred the required sums (1000 and 500 £) in and out via online banking. Each account paid ca 13 £/month for a total of +300£. Earned ...

  • Re: Utility Warehouse wireless router

There you go Skywalker. Thank you Mallory. I will try it. I can always bring it back to Argos and get my money back if I am not happy with it. Savemoney, I appreciate your comments but I am a bit sceptical that it would make a difference at all. Even if I don't use a wireless router myself, I'm surrounded by the signals coming from my neighbours. ...

  • Re: Utility Warehouse wireless router

Thank you loantime. I'm not an IT expert but I thought I would be OK with just a password to prevent my neighbours from using my download limit. Now, I am not completely fool and would rely on wires for banking and credit card purchases. As for the Mac itself, I have always used it in wireless areas and never had any problem (used to access other ...
