As previosly stated you can use whoever you want to arrange installation of a new line, you aren't forced to use BT retail.
Reason for the contract is in the past BT retail would install a line only for customers to immediately jump ship to providers who couldn't be bothered to arrange installation.

Some dodgy info there I'm afraid. Only BT Openreach can physically install new lines and will charge £88 + VAT. However any provider, not only BT retail, can approach BT Openreach on your behalf and will charge you whatever they deem fit. If Sky want your custom they will arrange a new line for you.

Wouldn't be too hard on the BT rep, for whatever reasons the customer support folk whether online or on the phone aren't allowed to promote this offer, you have to ask for it. Data Protection rules don't allow telecom operators from divulging the info your are looking for and in any case it's immaterial. Unused lines are routinely stopped/disconnected, you can't just carry on using the previous tenants provider anymore.

Hi access, understand your concerns, does look iffy but have to say been using Quidco for about a year now and had £360 back for various deals. Best has been car insurance, got 2 cars insured fully comp for under £100 net. Latest has been £60 back for a mobile phone contract and £70 pending for signing up with E-On.
