• Re: Should I bank with a UK offshore bank or choose a bank where I live:

True, but then most UK banks have underwritten to cover their offshore siblings should they go bust, so even for e.g. co-operative bank in guernsey there's no worries, because the whole co-op group would stand in for your loss... I still wouldn't mind banking offshore, and (at least for my savings) I currently do... let's see about ...

  • Re: Offshore current account

Hi max, okayyyyyy... as said before: "thanks for the comment - compensation schemes are not of importance for me as my savings will be somewhere else, this is truly for banking and as a current account... but thanks for pointing it out, might be quite important for others." Should hear from them soon, so will find out myself the ...

Alright guys, nice conversation spun off here, but that wasn't really what I was looking for ;) So I take it granted that nobody has had any good/bad experience so far...? Regards, Mat

  • Re: Halifax International saver

Okay, an update: I now got all the documents and opened the internet banking facility - everything is done now and I save offshore - as I said, no problem at all and very professional handling from the guys at the Isle of Man. Regards, Mat

  • Re: BT 18 months contract and line rental charge increase = no obligation anymore?

Okay, an update: I'm now with Madasafish and everything went very smoothly. I'm paying my less than 10£ a month and don't have the hassle of a quarterly bill anymore, but a decent and nice monthly bill. My broadband is still with O2 and it didn't matter at all that I changed from BT to madasafish. I highly recommend them and ...

  • Offshore current account

Hi newsgroup, does anyone have any experience with an offshore current account? I'm not looking for something frenzy, just a basic current account with a debit card and a cheque book. I'm wondering about the co-op bank Guernsey account as I had contact with them recently, but are there any comments in general? Thanks and regards, Mat

Actually, Madasafish is a daughter of Plusnet, and both belong to BT - so there shouldn't be a problem with that ;) By the way, both sides can earn money with Madasafish Recommend-a-friend. you can send me a private email to find out if you're interested. Regards, Mat

  • Re: Should I bank with a UK offshore bank or choose a bank where I live:

Well, (as always) it depends ;) For example, in the Isle of Man all new deposits are guaranteed up to 50k£ per individual, which might be enough for a lot of people,... and actually, the UK guarantee isn't really higher, it's just less likely that there's a problem. In general, I wouldn't mind being with a bank from an ...

  • Re: Halifax International saver

Hi, I've just opened one of the Halifax International Regular Saver accounts - at least I've sent the documents to the Isle of Man. As yourself, I was a bit worried about the safety of my savings, but rest assured, all amounts up to 50k£ per individual are guaranteed in the Isle of Man, which (I think) is more than the current ...
