Hi everyone, I have a few fixed term deposits. One runs until Feb 2011 and another until late March 2011. Its going to be a long wait but at least I'm getting a decent return on the money. Nevertheless I'll be happy when I have it back in my hand.

I did discover the main reason for the cost was rebuilding a flue in the middle of the house and getting ventilation back to the boiler. He tried to keep the boiler in the same place. In the end we moved the boiler upstairs into a cupboard that was already there and was fitted on an outside wall next to one of the bathrooms. Again this proved a ...

I would shop around for quotes. When we replaced our boiler and various upgrades 2 years ago the range of quotes was mind blowing. The cheapest was £2,500 and the dearest £9.600. It did involve relocating the boiler from downstairs and moving it upstairs. In the end the quote we accepted was £2,800 as they came up with the best solution, power ...

Make an appointment and see a Manager. They are there to help you. Explain your situation, information you have on other houses in the road. The last adviser seems to have only be interested in selling you insurance which you can ill afford at the moment. I would be surprised if a more senior person cannot help. Good luck.

It will be worth talking to a solicitor to put the house in trust to avoid this. Wish we had done that for my mum's place. However, if there are signs that your mum's health is getting worse you may ...

You could also approach your current insurers to see how much they would quote.

Hi everyone, The FSCS keep sending me letters asking to prove the amount owed to me. They don't quote any details, when I rung they are not sure. They finally decided they just need to check account numbers. Then I got a further letter querying a specific account. It transpires they want a statement, although the money has been refunded! I did ...

I am going to wait and see what happens in the budget. There is still plenty of time for this years ISA. I would think later in the year interest rates must move up, if only a little. We helped our youngest to get started with a house just before things crashed. Although I think the house has lost a little of its value the thought of what we could ...

Hi May, Lovely to hear from you. Have you thought about maybe buying a place to rent out. The prices must be near the bottom with every chance of making a profit over the medium term. Or maybe a holiday home to enjoy. Just hate the thought of the bankers nearly walking away with it scott free, well almost! In the meantime keep it in small amounts. ...
