    Young drivers..

Hey, im 17. and trying to find insurance.
    i put in a 2001 vauxhall corsa, 1.2 comfort 16v.
    6400 miles a year, on a provisional. cheapest was 1100ish a year.
then put it as i passed. 2200ish. this has completely confused me.
then i even tried putting it as pass plus, still same price. confusing eh?
also, any tips on how to get cheaper insurance as a young driver?
would i get a cheaper quote via phone?
    cheers!!

    Re: Young drivers..

One reason might be the fact when you're a provisional driver you drive with an experienced driver next to you, ie more likely to drive safer. When you've passed your test, you're a 17 yr old let loose on the roads by yourself so you're a higher risk.

You know what, you'd be better off having insurance as a provisional, gain a yrs no claims discount, pass you test a yr later and take your pass plus, you should gain good discounts when you come to insure as a full licence holder then.

yer that would probably be best. however would prefer to pass sooner rather then later and would prefer to drive to work than getting bus in the morning. :)
what would happen if you just hadn't told insurance company you had passed til the renewal came near? just out of interest purposes obviously.

You're talking about lying to your insurance company which basically would invalidate your policy. It would probably be seen as quite a serious thing because as I said in the my other post having an experienced driver next to you is very different to not having one.

Do quotes with your mum or dad on as an additional driver - that should help with the premium a little. Mileage also has an impact on price so really think about how many miles you'll actually be doing rather than guessing. Would 4999 miles a yr suffice as apposed to 6400?
