    Not prevent necessarily but reduce the total you could borrow. I understand they take 3 - 4 times combined income then knock off your debts. So could maybe borrow about £240k assuming you have at least 10% deposit.

    Hi there

    My partner and I are hoping to get a mortgage in the not too distant future, in the region of £180-210k.

    I believe we both have good credit ratings, and we have a combined income of approx £70k.

    However, we both have a fair degree of debt.

    We’ve both been making payments on our debts and have not been missing payments.

    My debt amounts to £23k and my partner’s amounts to £15k

    Would these debts prevent us from getting a mortgage?
