My girlfriend and I are going skiing to Austria on sat 28th feb for a week and we're looking to get winter sports cover insurance.

For couples insurance, do you have to be married or anything like that? Because obviously we are not.

Also, you can get individual winter sports cover for bout £10, where as couples insurance is about £30 and doesn't cover nearly as much as the expense that two individual policies would.

Does anybody have any idea why?

You will be able to apply for couple insurance providing that you and your girlfriend reside together.

Some insurance companies do put a minimum length of time that you have to of resided together so be sure to read your policy wording and if still unsure give your chosen provider a call they will be able to clarify it for you.
