Insurers normally give set discounts for a set list of security provisions, which generally doesn't include shutters. The only exception if you have a bespoke, not off-the-peg policy, then in that case you should speak to your Broker/Insurer.

It does not make alot of difference to your home insurance by you putting internal shutters to your windows, but it will give you peace of mind, we put fancy wrought-iron grills to all of our back windows, the way they were fitted made it very safe for you to open from the inside, say. god forbid there was a house fire ect, and you had to break the glass, as you know when you take out your home insurance alot depends of where you live in the country, if you have a garage, do you have an alarm, and they ask do your doors have mortice-locks, in fact they are assessing at the time you take out your home insurance what sort of security you have or have not, so im guessing that when you took out your Home Insurance Policy you told them of what your home already had or didnt have, when you install your new shutters you can ring your insurance company up and explain you are getting them installed, and would it make any difference to your monthly, or yearly payment of your Home Insurance Policy, i doubt it will, but if you dont ask you dont get do you, there is no harm in asking, but in my case when we put up our fancy grills on our back windows it didnt make any difference to our Home Insurance Policy, but i do have peace of mind now at night, or if i go out, or go away, knowing that my home is secure and safe. I know of one of my neighbours who has those external shutters, and when they used to go away she would pull them down and lock them, she was broken into, as the police said they were advertising that they were away just by pulling down these shutters, and she got them removed, and now has fancy grills on her back windows, that was 5 years ago, and thank god she has not had any problems since, i hope this has helped you, but i didnt get any reduction in my Home Insurance payments by adding my protection, but to give you peace of mind just ring your provider and ask them for yourselves,

Will internal shutters reduce my home insurance policy?

I hear on the news that the Police Federation are anticipating a 25 per cent increase in home burglaries over the next two years. We are thinking of fitting internal shutters to the windows at the back of our house to help with security and wondered if this would also give us a reduction in home insurance. And if so, what sort of difference does it generally make?

    Many thanks
