He's right. If you cancel with TalkTalk to go with Sky, you are going to get termination charges.

Thing is buddy, when you go with Talk Talk they literally convert your line to whats known as MPF or cable in english. Equalling in the line being converted and then becoming in a 12 month contract with BT. if you go straight to sky you will get termination charges from bt. have a think about it

Re: Will I need to give BT line rental back..?

In my experience it's always a huge headache to migrate. I know I had a hell of a time migrating my dad's service a few years ago. He's just migrated again, from Demon to BT, strangely this time with no problems! Was connected within a week. I was quite surprised actually, not because BT are a nightmare, all of my family including myself have been with BT for years without a problem, but because he asked me to check out BT for him, and had it done before I could even get him details on their packages!

Doesn't seem to matter who you're leaving though or who you're going to for the most part, migration is always a headache. But what a lot of folks on here are forgetting it seems, or merely not stating is that BT provide the line rental for almost every internet company in the UK, whether they state it or not. They should state it but a lot don't. That's ISPs, not the fellow forum goers...so that does mean you'll have to give BT line rental back. Hopefully this will change one day though and BT will not have such a stranglehold over the UK and we'll all have the choice we're entitled to.

Thanks Jason.Looking at some of the other threads on this and other forums, looks liek it can be a real pain just to change ISP's...

    Hi Peter

The short is yes I'm afraid so. At present you're on cable which is different to the BT network which is what you need to be on. Good idea is to check out the thread on Sky Broadband on this Forum which I'm afraid from David's experience sounded like a bit of a nightmare but hang in there and you'll probably get it sorted in the end.

Basically you liaise with Sky and they speak to BT to get it all sorted for you, but as the thread shows this can serve up some real headaches for you including potential loss of service for a few weeks!

Good luck and fingers crossed you get the service you want as quickly as possible.

    Cheers

Will I need to give BT line rental back..?

    Hi all
Just wondering if I need to give line rental back to BT in order to get Sky Broadband?
My line rental is currently with Talk Talk as I've got a package with them(BB currently with NTL).I will call NTL before I migrate as I may get a good deal from them to keep me.
Anyone know/advise if I need to revert back to BT ,if so how is it done or do Sky take care of it when you transfer to them...?

    Many thanks
    Peter
