Re: Why should I stay with BT even though I want to leave them...

Following up on my previous rant...

On the 23rd March I read that BT's investment will allow broadband speeds up to 60mbps by 2010 to some major cities and by 2012 will offer up to 100mbps to 40% of UK homes - to be completely honest, that's rubbish! Come on, where's the commitment?

Only one day later Virgin Media hit back and show off that they already offer up to 60mbps and that by 2010 will offer between 100 - 150mbps. Fair enough they already have the fibre optic structure already and at a smaller scale to BT. But I just feel BT isn't being ambitious enough and are not in the position they once were of dominating the market. They need to be careful, especially when Virgin are considering opinion up their fibre optics to others.

Has anyone had experience of both Virgin Media & BT Vision? How do they way up against each other currently?

Why should I stay with BT even though I want to leave them...

BT are a funny little/big company who I really dislike (personally). I've been with them on two separate occasions now - the first being in 2005 and the second in 2007 (I moved houses & Pipex became boring after they got rid of the Hoff as their face).

The fact that I even went back to BT after my first experience of waiting 3 hours on hold while attempting to get my MAC code. I never forgave them for giving me temporary bad skin on my left cheek due to the length of time spent on the phone to them. I needed physio on my elbow as my hand was constantly positioned by my ear.

Another thing about BT is that I don't agree with their future investment of Billions on a new internet infrastructure using Fibre Optics. Perhaps they should research towards the East. Taipei, for example is a city of 2.6m people and in 2004 the Mayor invested $70m to create the worlds first Wi-Fi city. They managed in just 3 years to provide Wifi to 90% of the population. But fair play to BT...

    You gotta love BT Vision!
