The newer companies are now looking at this gap in the market and are improving deals that the bigger companies will refuse to do like owning 2 cars. Take a look at some the newer companies.

There's quite a few companies that specialise in those with more than 1 car. I'd take a good look at the market place.

If you have only built up a no claims discount for one vehicle, Insurers will only allow against one vehicle. It is up to you which vehicle you wish to use the NCD against. For a 2nd vehicle the Insurers will initialy only provide a 2nd car discount.

Try Admiral who have a multi-car policy that apparently is more generous when allowing discounts for other vehicles. Or for a more personal service it is worth going to a local broker who may be able to find you a better deal. Find broker using BIBA site http://www.biba.org.uk/ConsumerHome.aspx

Why is owning 2 cars so difficult to insure at a fair price?

Hi, I have been driving since I was 18. I am now 46. I have had no accidents, claims etc. I was living in France for a while but it didn't matter as I was able to get my letter stating that I had been insured out there for the 2 yrs that I was there and that I had proof of 15yrs no claims discount. I bought a cheap car over here in the UK insured it with Prudential and duly sent them the original letter proving my no claims. They promised they would send the letter back as it was an original but they still haven't done this. I bought a weekend camper van and had this insured. I was going to sell the cheap diesel car and just use the van. I haven't sold it yet but to insure it again they are saying that I wont be allowed to use my no claims as I am insured with another vehicle?????? and that I can't prove that i have no claims????? I don't understand. Why cant we insure 2 cars, or however many cars we wish to have as a low insurance safe driver?

Will you please explain to me why the insurance companies use this method.
