    Kev,

If it is that.........I will kill her.............or work out how many extra units she as cost me and send her the bill......

Mind you its her birthday next week and we have bought her a netbook thingy, so she wont need the computer on 24/7 then anyway.

    :-)

    Hiya,

I have been checking to see if my daughter has left anything on, sometimes she does so I am making an effort to turn everything off. She does leave her computer on all the time.....could this be what may be causing the increase, and thinking about it, this has been only in the last few months..I did wonder, I will go home and switch it off and see if it makes any difference.

    Thank you :-)

Re: Why have my units increased!!!!

I did find at one stage my kids would leave things switched on in their bedrooms. The eldest boy even had a fan heater because he thought his room was cold! When we have changed things we have gone for Grade A energy efficiency. Changed the light bulbs. Generally things which produce heat are the bigger users of electricity. My wife has just bought one of those big steam irons with the water tank etc. I dread to think how much that uses. Luckily she prefers the old one. It might be worth thinking about economy 7 electricity if you can move your usage overnight. We have timers on the washing machine, dishwasher and tumble dryer. Another thought:- Do you leave the computer on all the time? Re your meter. the faster it flashes the more you are using.

Re: Why have my units increased!!!!

    Hi Kev,

Our Meter is digital so cant see it go round as such, but I do know that when the oven is on the red light flashes continuously, where as if we are only watching tv etc its is intermitant.

We are no turning everything off at the mains, to see if we can bring the units down at all, but I still dont know why the units are so much more than what they were the same time last year when we are not doing anything different??

I have tried asking EDF but they just say for the type of property we should be using 13-16 units per day. I looked back and when I was reading the meter daily in May as I thought our last bill was high, we were only using 10 units...could the extra 3 be because of the heating and lights,,,i dont know and this is why it i confusing.

I would expect the readings to be higher in the winter, but I dont understand why there is such a difference from the last years bill when everything is the same....

Sorry to go on, but its getting to me now..... :-)

Your units for the oven seem about right. Try switching everything off and see if the meter keeps turning? There must be something on that you are unaware of. We cook and heat with gas, and we use approx 100 units per week of electricity. That includes a dishwasher daily, washing machine and tumble drier daily. Have you bought anything new recently?

Re: Why have my units increased!!!!

    Hi,

No there is no light on in the loft, and as for he immersion, the timer has been coming on and off at the times I set since I move in, and the units have never been so high.....

I am at a loss and driving everyone mad....

Does anyone know roughly how many units, say an electric shower would use, or an electric oven, I had the oven on last night for about 45 mins, and seemed to have used 2 units......we did have one light on and the tv...is this right?

Thanks in advance for any help and advice :-)

Re: Why have my units increased!!!!

fridge/freezer cannot use 8 units in a day. it must be immersion heater. check if your timer switch is working correctly and you have not turned on the override button on the timer switch.

    Why have my units increased!!!!

I wonder if anyone could help.

I have just received my electric bill for the Aug-Nov period, and for some reason we have used about 360 more units than the same time last year.

Bearing in mind nothing has changed and we not doing anything different, I am at a loss as to why this is.

I have contacted EDF, but they could'nt help.

I have been making a note of the readings in the morning and the evening, and it averages to 13 a day, this is an increase of about 3 units from the same time last year. I know it doesnt seem a lot but over the months it is.

We also somehow clocked up 8 units with no one being in the house...the only thing on was the fridge/freezer and the water/heating coming on once in the morning for an hour and again in the evening for 3 hours...I find this bizarre if when we are at home and everything is on its only 5 units more.

I have read a few forums and some people say about the immersion, as mine is on a timer I assume it wouldnt be on 24/7? Plus apart from changing the times, I havent touched anything since I moved in, so I cant think it would be that.

Any help, advice would be great :-)
