Thank you very much for your help - very much appreciated. I will start recording the readings for the next month on a daily basis as you suggest.

I just dont see where im using £100+ a month on electricity when im not home during the day and i live alone. Bizarre!!

     Thanks x

Re: Who Do I Switch To ???

    fuzzylittlethings,

Comfort Plus is a tariff designed for elderly or disabled customers who are at home throughout the day. The tariff charges a set rate of c.4p a unit for all heating/water supplies and a separate rate for lights and switches of c.9p a unit. If Scottish Power are saying that you are using £100 a month then you are using c.1,500kwh of electricity in 30-days.

This product also has a standing charge that stands at c.30p p/day = c.£2.10 a week.

So, if your paying c.£8.40 a month through the daily standing charge, this still means you're paying £91.60 on energy a month.

If this was for a quarter I'd think it was more realistic, but for a month I just can't see it.

I'd strongly advise that you speak to Scottish Power again and advised that this reading can not be accurate. The other thing to do is to start taking your own readings to see how much the meter goes up in, for example, 24-hours. This will tell you whether there is a fault with the meter or not.

I have to admit that I'm not quite up to scratch on this product but I'll do some more investigating. Meanwhile, contact the provider and ask that they review your account and explain your tariff clearly to you.

Re: Who Do I Switch To ???

Im all new here and wondered if anyone could give me a bit of advice.

I recently moved into a 2 bedroom flat by myself and Scottish Power are the provider there (electricv only).

I recently got my first quarterly bill and was shocked at the price of it - it was £350 for a quarter. I called them up to query the bill as it surely wasnt correct and the guy refused point blank to send somebody out to check the meter and swore blind i was using £100 + a month on my electricity/heating.

Apparanty im on 'Comfort Plus' with them. I explined to the guy im not in during the day and i live by myslelf and as its the summer all the heaters are switched off at the wall. I moved from a one bed flat on Economy 7 using the cards to pay and was only using £35.00 there.

Surely that cant be right that im using £100 + a month now. And if this is correct where am i going wrong? Can i change to a cheaper provider?

Re: Who Do I Switch To ???

    Hi Mak

check the fuel cost rate from normal payments to the online payments, scottish power provided me with a price booklet when i joined and that gives you the comparison for all the different ways off paying and running account. it was a low rate for running it on line , also you get to keep your reading upto date and you get the ability of seeing what is peak and drops in energy level use.

this is found by my own trial with the accounts, i been with scottish power for about 3 years on and off line with moving address.

Re: Who Do I Switch To ???

Great news Mak. £240 plus £30 is a fantastic result. Adam Scorer from Energywatch was just on BBC's Working Lunch saying they were expecting a number of companies to come in next week with improved offerings. So keep an eye on this and check again, say in a few months time, to see whether SP are still the best. To be fair they have been a leading player on price,so you won't be far away.

Re: Who Do I Switch To ???

    Mak,

No. The savings you make from changing energy tariff are not affected. So your £200+ saving will stand as it was shown on the results page. The cashback offer is an extra and so you will receive this as a one-off payment directly from moneysupermarket.

The payment will be made when we receive confirmation from your new energy provider that your application has been successful. This can take between 4-6 weeks. This is all in the T&Cs on the site.

If you have signed up to a tariff paying by monthly direct debit, the cashback will be paid into the bank account you provided on the application form.

If you have opted to pay your new energy bill by quarterly cash or cheque then we will send a cheque to the name and address provided on the application form.

The cashback offer is not going to run forever and is strictly set so that only one payment is made to each household.

Finally, YES it is definitely worth changing without the cashback. As you've shown you can make very substantial savings by changing energy providers.

I hope this clears things up for you.

Re: Who Do I Switch To ???

Is the Cashback offer taken off of my savings Scott or is it paid by moneysupermarket?
When you say one per household, is that once - forever! or once a year!
Anyway, it is still worth changing without the cashback :)

    Thanks

    Mak

Re: Who Do I Switch To ???

    Mak,

Excellent news that you managed to make such a substantial saving.

Remember, there is no reason why you can't change energy providers frequently to ensure you're getting the best deal.

Energy contracts usually last no longer than 28-days and so we would advise that you look to change tariffs/providers atleast twice a year.

Unfortunetly, the cashback offer is limited to one per household but i'm sure the money will come in useful.
