Hi,

I have purchased a Robosapian toy for my kids and I was thinking about getting some rechargeable batteries as I understand these robots can eat batteries (I assume thats the energy and not the actual battery!).

In particular its the 'D' size battery that will get mighty expensive it they run out quickly. What make of battery comes out well and does anyone have any battery experience relating to these robot thingies!

I use Uniross rechargeable D size batteries, which last a good while. They are available at loads of places, here's a few:

eBay are also worth a try. I got some Vapex ones there that seem to have done better for me than Uniross. When comparing, you need to look at the mAh (milliAmpHours) which will tell you how much charge a battery will hold. The higher the number, the higher the price and the longer the batteries will last between charges.

Also rechargeable batteries do not go on for ever. After a few years of regular use (and after saving many times the cost of alkaline batteries) they will need replacing. Some makes last longer than others.

I'm currently thinking about energizer D ni-mh 2500 mAh batteries from tesco direct, pack of two for £5.47, but have found some 11000 (yes 11000!) mAh Maha Powerex D ni-mh batteries (just a tad expenseive for me at £19.99 for pack of 2). I'm going to do a little more thinking first before placing my order as I need 10 x D batteries in total.

11000 mAh sounds a lot and you'll have to decide whether you believe it or not. With Tesco at least you can take them back if you accidentally drop them in the bath after a week. If there's a pound shop near you there might be some there (perhaps 1200 mAh x 2 for £1) - worth considering.

Remeber also that if the 11000 mAh is genuine, the robots will go on and on. At least with 1200 mAh you'll get a break from the toy while the batteries charge :)

 Hmm.. very good point. Having a robot in roam mode wandering around the house in the middle of the night might get a bit wearing!

I see that Uniross were not rated by maxsteam, but with over 1000 charges you might just get fed up with the toy, before the batteries are knackered, at that price it's good value for the 10 x batteries you need.

Uniross are OK. It's just that the last batteries that I threw away (after giving decent service) were Uniross. I also got some Vapex ones off eBay and they seem to be lasting better. It's nothing scientific, just an opinion.

Thats a pretty good price and I've used that ebay merchant before (medbat) so I'm going to sleep on it but it seems quite tempting.

Knowing my two boys I suspect the robot is going to get quite alot of use. I just hope its got a mute / volume control!

Rapid Batteries (link posted above) give a discount for multi-buys, they do 4 packs (8 batteries) for £19, so 10 should be around £23.75 at that rate, then there's 90p postage to add on top making £24.65.

No, just did a google search, but you can pay by Paypal - so you get the same buyer protection as any eBay purchase and higher protection than just paying by credit card/debit card on any website.

Has anybody used the new Duracell Supreme AA rechargeable batteries. I've just seen them on http://www.battery-box.co.uk at the cheapest price I can find - £7.99. Just wondering whether they are worth the money or is it just the brand name
