It is very strange that his car comes up ok on the askmid database. Hes got 2 cars but he is driving the one that says he is insured. The reason he was in court was that he drove without insurance for a few days and he made out that the ownership had not been transferred to him. But the police register showed he was the owner so it comes up that he is the owner.

He may get away with it cos he has a clean South African licence.I would have thought his name and address would come up with both licences though.

Maybe the ban has been overturned and that is why the insurance is ok. He does go 100 miles to pick up his young son from the mother so she is a witness to driving whist banned,but I dont know her address to contact her.

moira -- This guy could have transferred ownership of the car into a friends name then got them to insure the car or it may have already been owned by another person, that way it will still show as having insurance cover when it passes ANPR cameras, or on the ASKMID database.(but not in his name !)

The Police could also prosecute by yourself and a witness reporting having seen him driving at a certain place and time, then making a statement to that effect, although it is better if the Police catch him in the act.

Yes he can drive on that. A south african driving license is just as valid as a UK driving license. his insurers would have checked the DVLA database to make sure he wasn't banned. You say that the police have been informed, they also would have checked that he was or wasn't banned. If he was it's an immediately arrestable offense, so i would doubt that he actually is banned.

This is ridiculous reply.Why would I ask for information about a ban being overturned if I didnt know he had been banned??

He was banned I was there when they banned him in court!!!! Ive rung the DVLA and he cant drive on a SA driving licence if he is banned in Britain.

Im a bit confused about the him still being on the insurance register.Unless he has given them his SA driving licence details.

The police said they cannot arrest him unless they catch him driving whilst banned. So basically they will have to put him under surveillance.Due to lack of resources,time etc I doubt they will do that. So its only an immediately arrestable offence if they catch him actually driving.

I've tried askmid and he is on there,as insured. The thing is he has a South African driving licence and says he can drive on that,although he's lying,he can't. Maybe the insurance have not been given all the correct details.

I phoned the Crimestoppers a couple of months ago and they contacted the local police,but he is still driving so they cant have done anything.They need to catch him doing it. His ex wife would go mad if she knew,as he picks the child up every weekend.

Ive e-mailed the court anyway to ask for advice.

Also try ASKMID with the vehicle registration number, because if they are banned they won't be insured either.

George is right. Get the registration number of the vehicle, and phone the police. Give them this information and tell them that you suspect the person is driving whilst banned. They won't be able to tell you whether they are or not but they can look it up on the DVLA database and take appropriate action.

i dont thing you can do anything about this as you have no jurisdiction / justification to ask for this information (ie he hasnt gone for a job with you etc)

dont know about anyone else but the fact that he is putting a child potentially in harms way disturbs me. is his tax in date? if it is he has to have insurance to get it. if not then you can get him done for an out of date tax disk.

or you can just phone the police for advice?

Will the courts give me this information. The person drives whilst banned,doesnt care about the law.Or that his small child is in the car. Can I ask the court if his ban has been overturned?
